Professional Standards

Well the time has finally arrived, just unexpectedly.

I was invited to see top brass today in their office and presented with their opinion about my blog. It seems the blog needs to end completely now.

It's been fun writing, it's also a shame about this but I'm sure you will understand my situation. Orders are orders and like soldiers, we must follow them. I've been a PC now for almost 10 years and felt my stories and experiences documented on here were fun and interesting to read.

I never once wanted to offend anyone or any agency, the aim of my stories was just to conjure up your senses of humor and to vent my frustrations at some of the red tape that exists in my job, it was to be taken in pure jest simply to amuse and nothing more.

Well all good things must come to an end and I would like to just express my thanks to my readers who took time out of their lives to sit down and read my humble writings. Thanks for reading, if you are joining the police then I wish you every success getting in. If you are already a bobby then I wish you continued success with your careers!

At least now I should be able to get my refs!

Take care,
Semper Fi

*Cue a thumbs up*

It is with much sorrow that I read that Semper has had to stop, and with greater sorrow that I hear that PC South West is also considering stopping.

Over the last 12 months I've read many Police blogs, and in their own unique way it's made me even more determined to do 'the job' full time.

I've chosen to blog, to hopefully show real people what it's like. To show that we do care, we do want to do the best we can, but at times we are frustrated. Instead of sitting on my arse and complaining I'd like to think I'm doing something positive, not only for me but for the greater good.

I have no doubt that I have a black mark already against my name. But I will continue to volunteer and post, until I'm am forced not to.

I care deeply for the area that I live and work. I want to make it better, that is why I give up my time. The Police are a backwards organisation. No other service seems to treat it's main body of workers so badly. Unfortunately I think it's going to get worse before it gets better.

It is with the sword of Damocles hanging above my head that I write this.

Semper, I wish you the best of luck. Don't let them get you down.

Best wishes

Hi Semper, Ive been reading your blog since day one & have enjoyed reading it & found it not only informative but also amusing :o).
Im sad to see that senior management have seen it fit to introduce professional standards & all I have to say to them is this: If these blogs open the public's eyes to what the police are actually doing & serve to prove how much beaurocracy & political correctness there actually is in the job, surely that can't be a bad thing? If they help to breakdown barriers to a small extent with the public & improve relations, again, how is that bad? Is it simply because on these blogs the truth comes out & the Police arent the superbly smooth run like clockwork machine we are led to believe they are? From speaking to both front line officers in the city & reading these blogs I have had the same things said or hinted at, the fact that there is far too much paperwork, there is no officer discretion anymore, everything has to be 'correct' or seen to be so & to be honest with the amount of form filling involved they are, at times, little more than uniformed secretaries without the cushy comfy security of a desk job...(& high heels ;oP) oh, & both have bosses willing to shaft them at every oppurtunity!!!
And aftet all that I STILL want to join the force, am I completely mad or just plain stupid?! (On second thoughts dont answer! Lol) ;o)

My words to you Semper are thank you for such an enjoyable & humurously informative blog, made me smile & frown simultaneously more than once. My application form is slowly but surely being filled in & will be winging its way sometime next week, so fingers crossed for me! :o) (I blame all police bloggers in some part for making me take the final step, you just make it all sound far too much fun damn you! Despite the half a rainforest you have to fill in in an average month :oP)

Anyway, good luck Semper, stay safe & keep smiling *cue inane grin* :o)

Even though you will not be able to receive the continued encouragement of your readership, I do hope you will continue to maintain a commentary on current affairs in your private diary.

A time will surely come when the people with operational responsibility for our public services will see the need to operate in an open and transparent manner and, when that time arrives, I very much look forward to reading your published memoirs.

Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.
